For any and all who wonder how not to run your company the Computer Mania saga seems to have come to a close.  After giving my cousin a “new” computer that had in fact been opened, and was also missing a remote, Computer Mania seemd content with losing her business and giving them a refund.  She had asked for some more Ram as compensation for the used remoteless computer, and then she could run Vista properly.  (Which seemed fair since she PAID for a new computer and they gave her a used one.  My guess is someone right now is looking for the computer they put in to be repaired and they will find it has been given away).  Long story short, they said no, she said give me my money back.  She has bought a Mac and is happily windows vista free.

i just need to start thinking like a mac.

when we returned the laptop, they said nothing and we said nothing. it was all very polite. it felt like they were told not to say anything to make matters worse. but little do they know. i will write to the newspapers and complain to their headoffice and they will continue to see that jonathans posts are rising in google rankings.

this isnt over for a long shot.

my apple is tiny and light. shes a pretty baby without windows.

I still can not comprehend how incompetent that store seems to be. If you PAY for a new laptop and it blue screens on you in MONTH ONE, you really do not want to be given a “new” used one. That alone is worth complaining. But to pretend to fix it, to let days go by without calling you, and then to promise you a regional manager who fails to call is mind blowing.

Let it be heard: “…give a client the best service and he might tell ONE, but make a make a mistake and you’ll hear it from ALL…”
Yip…I’m guilty…I’m one of them…I work for THE COMPANY you despise so much. Does that make me a idiot as well? I guess it could…but that wouldn’t stand well with me. I DO NOT LIKE TO BE REFERRED TO AS A IDIOT! The following is my and ONLY my viewpoint on this, shall we say “DELICATE” debate of yours…lets rather call it a “RANT”…DUHHH! The views and (continued?)

I wasn’t sure if I should approve this comment because it seems to not have been finished. But since it’s a South African email I went for it. Though in fairness incompetent does not necessarily make one an idiot. But glad to see some passion for the store, even if it was generated by a computer. Or someone who seems to not want to finish his comments. (So maybe it really was an employee of computer mania). ;-)

Anyway, if you are real whoever you are please write back and finish your comment. And I do care about your name, so feel free to leave it! Just in case you don’t actually work for the company and you are trying to make them look bad by starting and not finishing your sentences.

Like I said…The views and opinions expressed is just too one sided to be called anything else…but O YES!…it’s not called ranting for nothing…That’s what we’re doing right? Right?! Lets get back to MY view or opinion or expression… call it what you may.
I enjoy what I do and I do my best to do it PERFECT. I’m honest and I don’t talk lies just to make a sale. I give my view and opinion about a product open mindedly to my end user. If and when I’m unsure about something I ask. (2 b continued again)

Why all the to be continues??? But feel free to comment away. Maybe some answers will come out as to why my cousin was treated so poorly and why no one was able to answer her questions when she had them, and while she still wanted to be a customer.
But seriously, not making a point is not helping the store that you seem to want to defend. Please try to summarize what you want to say in one full post if you can. It will make responses to it much easier. Otherwise you run the risk of running off one of those “rants” you so hate. That way it is easier for people to respond to you and have the open discussion you seem to be striving for.

Here I go again… Where was I… It took me eight years in the computer retail industry to get where i am regarding product knowledge, client service etc. and even I struggle to stay head above water regarding new products in this ever changing market and the ever demanding “after sales support”… But at least I know and it does not matter what anybody else says that I myself and many of our other idiots in the “Company” try…no DO OUR BEST IN THE NAME OF COMPUTER MANIA… I want to go on… Zzzz

  9. on 07 Jun 2007 at 2:03 am Maybe

Doing this on my phone…so be patient as i’m already p’d off about pressing the wrong button on my yet to be mastered cell causing me to loose the whole would be end to my…um…like You say rant… And if there is anybody I’m defending it is the sales person/ manager doing their part a 100 percent to their best efforts and still being treated like sh@t.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa it all makes sense now. I thought actually you were someone trying to make the store look worse by sending posts and not finishing them! Text away.

    Hi Sherrie…

Wow, this is awesome. I got one this morning too… my one is hilariously trying to pretend he doesn’t actually work at the store but carries on about how good their product knowledge and service are… It had me rolling with laughter.

I think yours is written by the *dum dum dum* regional manager.

I approved the comment on my blog because I think everyone should see how feeble the attempt at appearing neutral is. Also, the english is worth a laugh.

Hello Charl. I thought no more correspondence was to be entered into by Computer Mania.

If its not Charl, someone forgot to inform you that Computer Mania was not to get involved in this anymore.

But then again, when have Computer Mania done anything without causing a shit storm?

Its my laptop we are referring to and I got the most amazing customer service from Project 3 in Claremont. My laptop “just works” (TM) and I feel vindicated – Project 3 proved that in order to sell a laptop, a company doesn’t have to be an ass…or incompetent….traits I was believing went hand in hand with computering selling.

Oh Sherrie, I never got one of these fun posts in my blog. :(

  14. on 07 Jun 2007 at 7:54 am Jonathan

Oh, one more thing… With all that product knowledge you’d think he’d know how to use his phone.

  15. [...] The Computer Mania saga has not ended yet.  Both Sherrie and Jonathan received crazy comments on their blogs.  The commenter admits to working for Computer Mania and does a horrible job of grasping the english language.  Seriously, if you are going to retaliate, please do so with spell check.  I’m not going to take you seriously if you mis-spell every second word.  And thats something coming from me.  Go check em both out:  Jonathan and sherrie. Hee hee I KNOW! I would not be happy if my Computer Mania rep had difficulties with his phone. I honestly thought it was one of your friends it was so poorly written and off the point. (he never actually addresses what happened, just says he hates being called and idiot, when the only person who called him an idiot in this post was himself.) :-P

Maybe if your really lucky Rian he will leave one on your blog. But truthfully he probably knows you will respond without worrying about his feelings and just give it to him. :-P

I have been searching the web for a dvd repair machine to buy in south africa and the only one I could find is available at Computer mania. Cautious shopper that I am, I searched the web about the place first and came across this page and I have to say……THANK YOU!!! I almost made a trip from mpumalanga to cape town to purchase the device but after reading this, I am not putting my feet (or my money) near computer mania. Thanks again for the info.

No problem! If you check out Rian’s and Jonathon’s blogs you also come across a lot of info on how evil the whole saga seemed to be!!!

  19. on 10 Oct 2007 at 4:18 pm Gareth

Wow, here I am, wondering around the net for a DVD-Writer, and I stumble upon this!

I really think that this has been taken out of proportion at this point. I have bought many things at Computer Mania (particularly the CW branch) and have not had many issues.

Having read the blog, seeing how angry you guys have become, leads me to believe that the company is well and truly full of crap!

Thankfully I, being an adult, realize that things can and probably will go wrong. Doing childish things (such as mocking their spelling) and doing so in a way that a high school student would, is just stupid.

I fully expect that this not be published on your ‘blog’, and I hope that you do not teach your children to follow your example.

P.S. I really hope that you rant and rave about this one, as there is nothing you can do about it!
Nice to be the bad guy, isn’t it?

I must agree with grant- I do a lot of business with computer mania in worcester, and never had a problen with their service. So next time you want to deal with competent staff, drive through to the cw (worcester) branch.
