This trip home has been fantastic if low key. Half my friends have kids, both my brothers do, and truthfully, I have no interest in spending the evening at clubs anymore even without having kids of my own.
At first I thought it was a getting older thing. Now I think it is more of a “found my partner” thing. Although I love to go dancing, I would rather go salsa dancing rather than to a club just to dance. And I think that has less to do with age and more to do with I found the person I want to be with, and so I no longer need to be on the hunt.
So when my brother told me rather than having me babysit his daughter so that he and his wife could go out, he would rather have me over and spend the night sitting around the outdoor fireplace, I agreed! I love outdoor fireplaces, and it sounds like a great night to me!
