That was the first time I ever visited Italy. Growing up in Newfoundland Italy was always on my dream countries list (ok, even when you grow up in Europe it is still on your dream country list) and as I was visiting a friend in Switzerland we took his bike down for the day. (That is something you can not do from Canada). Since we were crossing over from Switzerland there was a boarder crossing and he was able to snap a picture of me in pure bliss before we crossed the border.
One area I have not been however is Stresa (Italy), why is this of interest? Because my best friend is visiting me in March and I have been checking out places to go in Italy with her, I was thinking Lake Como because it is not so far past the border of Switzerland, and it is beautiful. But I have been there twice already, and although it is one of those places you can visit over and over again, of course I have an itch to see other places in Italy as well.
Looking into accommodation will be the deciding factor, because pictures of the place are absolutely gorgeous. Of course it is Italy, and it really does live up to its reputation as one of those places in the world where you can go just to relax and enjoy the food and natural beauty, or hit one of the bigger cities for all the nightlife you can handle.
This picture I took seems to me to be one of those quintessential Italian shots:
Stresa is on Lake Maggiore and so many of my students have told me how great this place is. Maybe it is time that I join them and check Lake Maggiore off my Italian bragging rights.
After all, Italy is known not just for coffee, but its spectacular lakes as well.
